Anoushka Shankar
Anoushka is an American British sitarist and musician. She was the first woman within her age bracket to be a member of the British House of Commons Staff. Anoushka is a rising star in Indian sitar. She is the student and sister of Ravi Shankar. She was born London in 1982, and during her early years, she swam in London New Delhi. In the age of thirteen she performed her first show in New Delhi. She then moved into Encinitas CA, where she received the High School diploma with honors in 1999. Although she is still very young, Anouskha has an impressive performing and recording. She often joins her father during performances, something she has been doing for quite a few years. Her first solo album, Anourag, was released in 1998. It was nominated for a Grammy Award. Carnegie Hall album was released in 2002. Stage performance is a large part of her career. She's performed at many famous venues around the world. Anoushka's career does not only comprise musical performances. She published Bapi The Love of My Life in 2002. This is a picture biography which pays tribute to her dad Ravi Shankar. Also, in films in 2003 she was in the movie Dance Like a Man where she plays an aspiring Bharat Natyam dancer. Anoushka Shankar is currently a rising celebrity and her popularity will keep on growing. Anoushka Shakar, born in England was a major part of her time between London Delhi. Following her move to California she graduated from the high school. Anoushka Shankar began her musical studies at the age of nine. Four years later she performed her sitar debut in Delhi at her father's 75th birthday celebration. Anoushka was able to gain a great deal of experience touring around the globe with her father. She performed in Carnegie Hall in her teenage period, as well as recorded for George Harrison's WOMAD Festival. It is the House of Commons Shield was given to her from the British Parliament as the pre-eminent Asian Arts musician. She is the sole female and is the smallest recipient of the distinction.
